How to Practice Emotion Regulation
1. Identify what you feel. pause and sense what's going on in your body then label it: "I feel angry. My chest is tight."
2. Pause: Just be with it. Notice your heart racing or the thoughts you're having. Just pause and observe them. Build the muscle of non-reactivity.
Don't push away your emotions.
Ask these questions of them instead:
* What is this emotion trying to tell me about myself? What is this feeling trying to tell me about the way I am engaging with others?
* How have I changed as a result of this feeling?
* What value is this emotion speaking to?
* What narrative am I holding on to? Why?
* Am I feeling more than one emotion?
3. Act: You'll need to wire new pathways through a change of behavior. This involves solving the issue, acceptance, or self-expression.
Solving the issue: I'm angry because I was taken advantage of and need to set boundaries.
Acceptance: Being angry is a valid response. I can be mad.
Self-expression: Directly telling someone how you feel.
Are you interested in working on your personal development? Are you looking for a life coach or a life consultant? Are you feeling stagnant? Do you want to jumpstart change?
My transformational approach is a process where awareness, alignment, and action work together as catalysts to create momentum for change.
*Awareness is knowing what you genuinely want and need.
*Alignment is the symmetry between our values and our actions. It means our inner and outer worlds match.
*Action is when you are conscious that what you say, do and think are in harmony with your values.
Together we build an understanding of what you want to accomplish, and delve deeply into building awareness around any thoughts and assumptions that you may already have. To truly transform your life, I will empower you to rethink what’s possible for you.
